Are Elders Mandated Reporters or not? (California)
by awakenyr2004 ini know clergy are mandated here in california but are elders considered clergy?.
father is on drugs and since confessed.

I believe that California is a required report State. It will be difficult for the average long-time elder to get their head around this. Abuse, all abuse mind you NOT just sexual, is reportable. In fact, if you have first hand knowledge of their abuse, then ????

So the local KH "rainy day fund" is no more. Congregation expenses for three months and MAYBE a 5K reserve. This is brilliant. Get rid of the DO's, make the CO's solely responsible. Tell the CO's to "remind" the congregations of the arrangement. Liquidate accounts and send to the ORG.
Pure genius!
Old timers who grew up with the "save for a rainy day" mentality will not like this. New ones will stop giving based on the announcement that the majority of the reserves were sent directly to the ORG. Me thinks this will backfire

Being part of the ORG is like having a really bad tattoo that has penetrated the subcutaneous layer of fat below the skins surface. It can never be undone. Yes, you can remove the tattoo, but the scars are there and a faint but perceptible image still lay beneath the surface.
The ORG is like the tattoo artist, half-drunk and not-so-steady of hand who sees the scar and reminds you that you had a tattoo there. In fact, he opens a binder full of polaroids or instamatic shots of the tattoo and says, "You had a tattoo there right?" He never forgets. He never forgets.
It's like the Eagles said, "You can check out, but you can never leave."

JW.BORG
by Separation of Powers infunny how well that goes together.. interesting that several months ago people were fearful to bring their pc tablets to the hall for fear that others would judge them for their "showy display" now to see most everyone, even the tikes, with a tablet.
i can hear those little tykes now with the veruca salt voice of the old willy wonka movie, "daddy, i want a new ipad.
get me an ipad daddy!

"Those with Special Needs"
by Separation of Powers inso, we all remember the old "special needs room request" form from the old district convention arrangement.
those with accomodations in bigger cities where the district assemblies were being held would provide a room within their homes to house brothers with nominal resources.
at times, however, where these accomodations were unavailable, the congregation itself would put up the funds to assist brothers with the cost of the room (on the list).

So, we all remember the old "special needs room request" form from the old District Convention arrangement. Those with accomodations in bigger cities where the District Assemblies were being held would provide a room within their homes to house brothers with nominal resources. At times, however, where these accomodations were unavailable, the congregation itself would put up the funds to assist brothers with the cost of the room (on the list).
So now, here we are with JW.org and the need to access it in order to fully acquire wisdom. It is being promoted throughout the world as the tool to gain accurate knowledge. What about those with special needs though? Those that cannot afford the price of even a cheap tablet? Where do they go? What do they do? I say, someone should recommend a "special needs tablet request" form. The congregation Service Committee can scrutinize the individual requests, verify that the person making the request is in "good standing" without the propensity to look at "improper material" on the Internet, etc. Then, after approving the request, the form could be sent to the ORG where funds from the WWW can be used to provide this life-saving tablet to the needy bro or sis. There could be a list of "approved" tablets whose names are not in some way related to pagan rituals or who don't help subsidize Christendom.
Good idea?

Funny how well that goes together.
I want it NOW!" I mean, when the kid grows up and walks away from the organization, they will more than likely say, "My parents didn't get me an iPad, so I couldn't access JW.org and for that reason I never made the truth my own...."
To see all these people with their tablets jumping from book to bible in PDF format...I really wonder. They have become part of the collective. They are truly becoming BORGlike.

One thing about this site that bothers me
by keyser soze inthe constant references to 'window washers' as something derogatory.. i understand the context of it-that most jws are uneducated, and unqualified to do much more.
but sometimes the references seem snobbish, almost mean-spirited.
one poster, on another thread, essentially referred to window washers as 'losers'.

Yep, wholeheartedly agree. People are too much defined by what they do, not who they are. Kinda sounds like something I was guilty of as a Witness. The constant judging equating spirituality with activity. Most of the "active" ones are so self-centered you couldn't expect them to be of any assistance in the event of a real emergency.
Long live window washers! They may endanger near-sighted birds, but they help the rays flow!
